Recipe to trick your brain!

Hey All!

Since I am a HUGE carb lover (who isn't?), I wanted to share this super easy, yummy recipe with everyone!

Spaghetti squash is a great way to trick your brain into thinking you are eating spaghetti, with no carbs! It's REALLY easy to make too, so that helps!

Buy 1 or 2 spaghetti squash
Cut in half, place in baking dish (cut side DOWN)
Cook for a 1/2 hour on 350 (or until tender, depending on size of the squash)
While squash is cooking, saute vegetables of your choice on the stove with garlic and a little olive oil (I love tomatoes/spinach/mushrooms)
When squash is done, scoop out the center (SPAGHETTI) and toss with sauteed vegetables
For extra flavor, but be careful on the calories...you can add feta cheese, parmesan cheese or shredded jack

This is a fantastic second to the real thing...with fewer calories and carbs! ENJOY!

Note, I have not fed Phil this yet....so I will make sure he posts his thoughts after.

Just had my weigh in this morning and I am down to 186.4........
That's what 1 week of salad and tuna fish will do for you!

I will have the spreadsheet up this weekend.

Hope everybody is doing well and dropping pounds.

today show article

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/34673364/ns/today-today_health/

Hi there!!

So... if you didn't know.. I'm a Today Show junkie... I watch it every day. I love Matt, Meredith, Ann, and Al.. there I said it.. that's the first step.

They do a lot of health pieces with Joy Bauer and this article has a couple easy basics that I try to use and they make a difference, a couple that resinate with me are....

Don't drink your calories.. I don't drink alcohol anymore so I luck out in this area but I used to LOVE juice drinks like Snapples or even cranberry and orange juice, but I gave up juice along time ago because of the CRAZY amount of sugar, fresh squeezed is ok in moderation. However.. I have not (and likely will not knixed my Diet Coke habit) but those delicious coffees at Starbucks come at a heavy price, I used to have a latte habit when I lived in NYC! When you really think about it I refocus with.. I would rather EAT my calories than drink them :)

Eat the veggies first. This is a great one (barring your veggies aren't dripping in butter) I try to fill up on salad or steamed veggies so I have the normal portion size of protein.

(I am an epic fail on this next one) Close the kitchen at night. My grandma mcmonigle used to do this, after dinner (and dessert she ALWAYS had dessert) she would clean the kitchen, turn off the light, and announce.. kitchens closed! I need to work on the later evening snacking myself. Tea or sugar free hot chocolate helps when in a pinch

Good luck today! Every day is a new day and a NEW OPPORTUNITY to make better choices :)

Welcome to the FLAKES FAMILY FITNESS Program!

As Phil and I were grilling for dinner tonight, we were trying to think of ways to all stay in touch about our progress. Email was so boring, so we found this blog site. A great way for us all to keep in touch, stay motivated and encourage each other. We can share articles, motivational quotes, pictures, recipes, etc. Anything to help us hit our target weights!

First blog topic....what does the winner receive? Share your thoughts.

Best of luck!
